Become a member of the NYS Coalition of Social Workers, Inc. and join an empowered community!

The New York State Coalition of Social Workers was founded in 2008 to protect social workers from the unintended consequences of the 2004 NYS social work licensure laws. In this short time, we’ve won critical successes, including the Registration Bill currently before both houses of the NY State legislature.

But there’s still much more to do. Through our lobbying and outreach, we’ve uncovered a multitude of unintended consequences from the 2004 licensure laws -- impeding every aspect of social work practice in NY State. Our top advocacy goals are to broaden the acceptable experience requirements and expand the list of approved experience settings to qualify for the LCSW. This will help individual LMSWs and their supervisors in all settings.

The time is now. We can’t stop our advocacy. Doing so would fail to protect the social work profession and the clients we serve. The Coalition has been the most effective in navigating these complex issues and offering intelligent solutions. Due to our research and swift action, we’ve successfully educated the NYSED/OP on the negative impact of the 2004 social work licensure laws. In fact, the Coalition is the sole organization to take the lead in standing up for the concerns of individual social workers in the field.

We need you… or we can’t continue. Your financial support is critical to continue to lobby Albany. Every dollar you contribute goes directly to our advocacy and legal fees on your behalf. And, we increase our influence in Albany with each new dues-paying Coalition member.
